Week Twenty One: every little step

"every little step (fiftytwocreatives mix)" arranged in Ableton Live 8

My submission for Ableton’s one-day, “Beat The Clock” competition.

I’ve been avoiding Live for years because I had no idea where anything was, and all of a sudden – poof! – I understand the flow. Not sure what caused the mentality switch, but I’m loving how clever the program is (albeit a little unorthodox).

One of the major criteria for the contest was making creative use of the supplied material provided by M83, Nosaj Thing, and Junior Boys. “every little step” consists mainly of M83′s samples, with the bassline and vox taken from Nosaj Thing’s set. Massive and Komplete 5 were used for the noise and piano transitions, and the kick drum comes from the default Ableton library.

Like what you hear? I could use your vote! The grand prize is a 4-day, round trip to Berlin and a whole lot of audio swag. I hoping to spend more time with Live, so I could really use that APC40 up for grabs …

Start Date: May 27th, 2012
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW): Ableton Live 8
Instruments: stock Ableton Live 8 instruments, contest samples, Native Instruments Massive (transition), Native Instruments Kontakt 5 (piano)
